Nearly 6,000 “Schwabbies” Kick Off Week of Intensive Community Service Projects
As part of a long-standing tradition celebrating Schwab’s culture of
service, thousands of Schwab employees and executives (“Schwabbies”)
today will begin Schwab’s 14th annual week-long volunteer
event by rolling up their sleeves to help local and national charities.
This year’s Schwab
Volunteer Week is expected to break previous years’ records, with
nearly 6,000 Schwab employee volunteers signed up for approximately 500
service projects that will benefit hundreds of charities coast to coast.
Schwabbies will donate approximately 23,000 volunteer hours during the
week, valued at an estimated $537,000. In addition, Charles Schwab
Foundation, the corporate foundation, will provide a total of close to
$144,000 in grants to participating nonprofits during Schwab Volunteer
Week, as it has in years past.
“Schwab Volunteer Week is absolutely my favorite week of the year,” said
Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz, president of Charles Schwab Foundation.
“Employee volunteerism and philanthropy run deep at Schwab, but this
particular week gives us a special opportunity to celebrate our esprit
de corps and passion for teamwork in order to make greater impact in the
communities where we live and work.”
Many Schwab Volunteer Week projects are designed to help nonprofits
increase the financial capability and well-being of the people they
serve, but Schwab employees can also participate in a range of other,
diverse volunteer projects. These include light construction,
landscaping and gardening, painting and cleaning, and meal service.
Benefiting organizations include:
-
Youth development organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs of America,
Junior Achievement and Big Brothers Big Sisters;
-
Public elementary, middle and high schools;
-
A wide variety of human services and economic development
organizations, including Dress for Success, Goodwill, Habitat for
Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Ronald McDonald House, and the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul.
Employee volunteer photos will be posted throughout the week and can be
viewed and downloaded here.
