SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Charles Schwab, a leading provider of custodial, operational and trading support for more than 5,700 independent fee-based investment advisory firms, today announced its keynote speaker line-up for its IMPACT 2009 conference, one of the nation’s largest and longest-running annual gatherings of independent advisors. The event will be held September 13-16 at the San Diego Convention Center and is designed to bring together the deep industry knowledge of Schwab and its advisor clients, in addition to well-known and respected third party speakers and exhibitors.

To provide advisors with perspectives on the current political and economic landscape, on Tuesday, September 15, political heavyweights Newt Gingrich (R) and Robert Reich (D) will engage in a lively discussion about the Obama administration and the current political and economic environment. Mr. Gingrich, former Congressman from Georgia who was the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1995-1996, is a best-selling author and one of today’s leading Republican voices. Mr. Reich was a member of President Obama’s transition team and served as Secretary of Labor during President Bill Clinton's first term; he is currently Professor of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley and is the author of 11 books on work and the economy.

Other keynote speakers at IMPACT 2009 will address the effect of the current economic environment and the global credit markets on advisors and individual investors, including:

  • Erik Peterson, senior vice president of the bi-partisan and not-for-profit think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and director of the Seven Revolutions Initiative, will address the long-range impact of globalization and the key policy challenges facing today’s policymakers and business leaders.
  • Dan Ariely, professor of Behavioral Economics at Duke University and author of Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions, will discuss why people act the way they do in various business and economic environments and how behavior impacts business innovation, strategy, marketing and pricing.
  • Liz Ann Sonders, chief investment strategist at Charles Schwab Corp., will discuss the economy and the state of the markets, and will provide an economic outlook for 2010.

This year’s event will feature a number of additional presentations by business and industry leaders, remarks by senior Schwab executives, information about products and services from more than 250 exhibitors, and more than 45 educational sessions on the range of topics affecting independent investment advisors, including investment strategies and tools; practice management and technology; and operational and business solutions.
