Nearly Two Thousand Employees Volunteer to Assist Nonprofits That Work to Improve the Financial Well-Being of Individuals and Families
Public Company Information:
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Charles Schwab Corporation’s annual Schwab Volunteer Week begins today with a heightened focus on helping everyday Americans become more financially fit. This year’s Volunteer Week, which runs through Friday, May 21, marks the seventh consecutive year Schwab has galvanized its employees to give back during a designated period of company-sponsored time off. Throughout the week, nearly 2,000 employees and executives nationwide will donate approximately 8,000 community service hours on 129 different projects, benefiting 92 nonprofit organizations, many of which aim to help alleviate poverty and provide the foundation for financial stability.
“This year’s Volunteer Week was inspired by our collective passion here at Schwab to break down barriers for people and help them attain financial well-being,” said Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz, president of Charles Schwab Foundation. “Whether it’s leading a workshop on financial basics at a local Boys & Girls Club or helping Habitat for Humanity build a home for a family in need, our goal is to make a difference in as many people’s lives as we can.”
“Giving back to the communities where we serve Schwab clients and where our employees live and work is an important tradition here at Schwab,” said Walt Bettinger, president and chief executive officer of The Charles Schwab Corporation. “Extending our energy, expertise and time outside of Schwab and into the lives of the underserved during this special week is something we look forward to with great enthusiasm.”
Locations for the company-organized projects include Austin; Charlotte, North Carolina; Chicago; Denver; Indianapolis; Jersey City; Orlando; Phoenix; Richfield, Ohio; San Francisco; and Raleigh, North Carolina. Additionally, some of the locations will be offering projects on site at Schwab locations to accommodate employees who may not be able to go to the organized off-site projects. Most of the on-site projects will involve assembling tote-bags with comfort items for homeless children, sponsored by Project Night Night.
The Charles Schwab Foundation will also donate a minimum $500 grant to organizations where a Schwab Volunteer Week project is being held. In total, approximately $50,000 in grants will be distributed during Volunteer Week. In addition to leading financial education workshops and mentoring, a variety of volunteer activities are planned for the week, including remodeling and painting shelters, serving food and working on community beautification.
