Education Workshops Highlight Focus on Financial Literacy
Public Company Information:
INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Local Charles Schwab employees begin participating today in the company’s annual Schwab Volunteer Week, with a heightened focus this year on helping everyday Americans become more financially fit. This year’s Volunteer Week, which runs through May 21, marks the company’s seventh consecutive year that Schwab has galvanized its employees to give back during a designated period of company-sponsored time off. During the week, over 100 Schwab employees and executives in the Indianapolis area will donate hundreds of service hours on projects benefiting a school and other community-focused nonprofit organizations, many of which aim to help alleviate poverty and provide the foundation for financial stability. Nationally, nearly 2,000 Schwab employees across the U.S. are volunteering to benefit 92 different nonprofit organizations.
Local Indianapolis-area Schwab employees nominated and selected a number of community projects to which they will donate their time and energy during the week. Helping build financial literacy was a priority for many Schwab employees, and educational outreach to three local groups will occur during the week. These include providing Schwab MoneyWise® workshops to the youth at St. Thomas Aquinas School, to the disadvantaged at Lord’s Pantry, and to the blind and visually impaired at Bosma.
In addition to providing educational workshops, Schwab’s Indianapolis-area employees will perform the following other volunteer activities:
“This year’s Volunteer Week was inspired by our collective passion here at Schwab to break down barriers for people and help them attain financial well-being,” said Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz, president of Charles Schwab Foundation. “Whether it’s leading workshops on financial basics at local schools or serving food to people who otherwise would not have a meal, our goal is to make a difference in as many people’s lives as we can.”
“Philanthropy and volunteerism are important values at Schwab, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity again this year to participate in a week of company-sponsored community service,” said Jeff Ackerson, vice president of Schwab Investor Services in Indianapolis. “Our employees relish the time they get to spend helping others, and the organizations where we pitch in appreciate our efforts as well.”
Other locations for company-organized volunteer projects include Austin; Charlotte, North Carolina; Chicago; Denver; Jersey City; Orlando; Phoenix; Richfield, Ohio; San Francisco; and Raleigh, North Carolina. In addition to Schwab employees’ service, Charles Schwab Foundation will donate a minimum $500 grant to organizations where a Schwab Volunteer Week project is being held.
